XMELT – Name Changer

Name Changer

You may have noticed that we changed our name from Melt to XMELT, but fear not. We’re still called “Melt” the “X” is silent!

Why would we do something so strange?

Name competition.

Another band named Melt that is a local, PDX band contacted us and said that they were Melt first and that we ought to change our name. The truth is, we didn’t know about them until pretty late in the game. How we didn’t know of them, I’m not sure, but we didn’t.

Our band could totally understand the other band’s position – not wanting to be confused with another band – we didn’t want that either, but we also loved the name and didn’t want to give it up.

We tried on other band names for months. Nothing stuck.

We were getting irritated about the idea of band names after awhile. The only name that everyone one sort of liked was, Ex-Melt, which evolved into XMELT and then Tuesday, our drummer said,

What if the X is silent?

We thought that was hilarious! We loved that idea so much we decided that would integrate it into our album title, The X Is Silent.

We are currently finishing our album with the help of our friend and producer, Daniel Riddle. He’s pretty much the fourth member of XMELT. He has gone so far above and beyond to see that our album sounds rad. We’re thrilled to have his help!

When Daniel isn’t recording bands or being a dad he has his own band, called King Black Acid – moonlighting as a rock star.

Th

Our new band name suits us. We are still called Melt or if people call us X-Melt, that is fine too, but what we like is that we get to say that we got kicked out of band name.

So that’s our story and we’re stickin’ to it!

With love and bruises,
Jen
